Online Program

The Foundations: Minister’s Development Program is accessible online and free to anyone pursuing ministerial development. 

Online Program Steps

The course is participant initiated.   To participate in the online course, follow these steps:

STEP 1

  • You will move through each course at your own pace.
  • Each course includes: instructional content, reflection activities, and quizzes/final assessment.
  • After successfully completing a course you will have the opportunity to download a “Recognition of Completion” for your record of course completion.

STEP 2

  • After successfully completing all six courses in Foundations: Minister’s Development Program, the Center for Biblical Leadership will award you the Foundations: Minister’s Development Program “Certificate of Achievement.”

STEP 3

  • To receive the “Certificate of Achievement” complete the “Individual Completion Form.” Email this form to cbl@cogop.org or complete online.

STEP 4

  • Completion of the Foundations: Minister’s Development Program assures that
    • Verification of this achievement will be accessible through the Leadership Development and Discipleship database upon request.
    • After acceptance into Spirit and Life Seminary you will be eligible to receive nine credits hours toward a Certificate in Ministry and Theological Studies.

STEP 5

If participants are pursuing a certificate with Spirit and Life Seminary, they must complete the “Transfer Request Form” to receive nine credits hours. Email this form to cbl@cogop.org or complete online.

The Minister and God’s Word

Synopsis

This course focuses on basic knowledge of the Bible, foundational Bible doctrines, and the hermeneutical process as well as an understanding of apologetics. Each lesson focuses on a Pentecostal perspective of the topic.

What to Expect

Each lesson will have a similar structure to aid in consistency. The seven lessons in this course are broken down into smaller sections, so that you have flexibility in the content and the pace at which you learn.

There will also be various knowledge checks and reflection points throughout the lessons as well as downloadable supplemental content that you will have access to offline. Each lesson includes a final assessment that is specific to that lesson. 

Before beginning each lesson take time to download the student’s guide so that you can take notes. 

Overall Goals

In this course you will develop a greater understanding of God’s Word—its authority and content, methods of study and defense, as well as an overview of several major Bible doctrines. In every lesson there are opportunities to explore how you can apply what you are learning to more effectively handle God’s Word as you minister to your congregation and community. 

The Minister’s Personal Life

Synopsis

This course addresses a variety of issues related to the pastor’s personal life, including components of the pastor’s spiritual formation, the pastoral marriage and family, as well as specific guidance on developing habits that lead to a lifetime of growth and effectiveness.

What to Expect

Each lesson will have a similar structure to aid in consistency. The seven lessons in this course are broken down into smaller sections, so that you have flexibility in the content and the pace at which you learn.

There will also be various knowledge checks and reflection points throughout the lessons as well as downloadable supplemental content that you will have access to offline. Each lesson includes a final assessment that is specific to that lesson.

Overall Goals

In this course you will develop a greater understanding of the intergration of your personal life with your ministry goals–your personal devotion to God, how to handle temptations and challenges, how to practice self-care as a minister, how to conduct yourself in your marriage and family life, and how to continually pursue growth as a minster. These overall objectives should be considered as you study each lesson. In every lesson there are opportunities to explore how you can apply what you are learning to effectively minister to those you serve.

The Minister and Practical Ministry

Synopsis

This course identifies and provides biblical and practical instruction for various roles and responsibilities of pastoral ministry.

What to Expect

Each lesson will have a similar structure to aid in consistency. The seven lessons in this course are broken down into smaller sections, so that you have flexibility in the content and the pace at which you learn.

There will also be various knowledge checks and reflection points throughout the lessons as well as downloadable supplemental content that you will have access to offline. Each lesson includes a final assessment that is specific to that lesson.

In this course you will develop a greater understanding of the tangible ways a minister may serve their congregation—preaching, teaching, planning worship services, celebrating sacraments, serving families, counseling, and developing ministries such as children, youth, and small groups. In every lesson, there are opportunities to explore how you can apply what you are learning to effectively minister to your congregation and community. 

The Minister’s Role as Leader

Synopsis

This course provides pastors and ministry leaders guidance in understanding and fulfilling key leadership responsibilities that sustain the health and fruitfulness of the local church.

What to Expect

Each lesson will have a similar structure to aid in consistency. The seven lessons in this course are broken down into smaller sections, so that you have flexibility in the content and the pace at which you learn.

There will also be various knowledge checks and reflection points throughout the lessons as well as downloadable supplemental content that you will have access to offline. Each lesson includes a final assessment that is specific to that lesson.

In this course, The Minister’s Role as Leader,  you will study  practices of spiritual leadership and the impact of culture on your local church. Course content will encourage the sharpening of practical leadership skills and provide guidance for the development of emerging leaders.  The overall objectives should be considered as you study each lesson.  In every lesson, there are opportunities to explore how you can apply what you are learning to effectively lead current and potential leaders, the congregation, and the community you serve.

The Minister’s Commitment to Evangelism and discipleship

Synopsis

This course addresses the most significant aspects of the local church’s mission—evangelism and discipleship. Each lesson provides a biblical foundation as well as practical principles and tools to aid pastors and ministry leaders in accomplishing these two missional tasks.

What to Expect

Each lesson will have a similar structure to aid in consistency. The seven lessons in this course are broken down into smaller sections, so that you have flexibility in the content and the pace at which you learn.

There will also be various knowledge checks and reflection points throughout the lessons as well as downloadable supplemental content that you will have access to offline. Each lesson includes a final assessment that is specific to that lesson.

Overall Goals

This course, “The Minister’s Commitment to Evangelism and Discipleship” addresses the two most urgent priorities of the local church.  The lessons examine the believer’s call and the church’s role in evangelism and missions, as well as the assimilation and discipleship of believers. The overall objectives should be considered as you study each lesson.  In every lesson, there are opportunities to explore how you and your congregation can become more fully committed to evangelism and discipleship. 

The Minister and the Church of God of Prophecy

Synopsis

This course will acquaint pastors and ministry leaders with the structure, polity and practices of the organization they serve. Sound principles will provide guidance in aligning the local church with the organizational structure.

What to Expect

Each lesson will have a similar structure to aid in consistency. The seven lessons in this course are broken down into smaller sections, so that you have flexibility in the content and the pace at which you learn.

There will also be various knowledge checks and reflection points throughout the lessons as well as downloadable supplemental content that you will have access to offline. Each lesson includes a final assessment that is specific to that lesson.

Overall Goals

In this course you will study an overview of the history of Christianity as well as the history of the Church of God of Prophecy. You will also become better acquainted with the Pentecostal distinctives the Church embraces, its polity, financial structure, and the biblical foundations of our statement of faith. The overall objectives should be considered as you study each lesson. In every lesson, there are opportunities to explore how you can apply what you are learning to align your ministry with the beliefs and practices of the Church of God of Prophecy.
